Ah, it's that time of the year again: Valentine's Day. A day of love, where getting flowers and chocolates and having a romantic outing with your significant other has become a staple – and we love how special it can make us feel. However, one thing we don’t get an entire day to celebrate is a day for the women in our lives – our gal-pals, our sisters, those ladies who are with us day-in and day-out.
If you’re looking for a day to celebrate those ladies in your life, we’ve got your answer: Galentine’s Day. Originating from Parks and Rec, character Leslie Knope once said, “Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”
We love our romantic partners – and we love celebrating our love for them on Valentine’s Day each year, but we also agree with Leslie Knope in that it’s definitely necessary to have a day to celebrate our dearest relationships with our girls.
Lady friends - they're with us through thick and then. Sometimes we fight with them, sometimes we don't talk to them, sometimes we laugh until we cry with them - but no matter what, they always hold a special place in our hearts.
Here at RMPR, we're usually an office entirely of women (not on purpose, but we love it!) and while we all have different personalities, the office wouldn't be the same if it was composed of anyone else. We love the idea of Galentine's Day, because we're constantly surrounded by smart, powerful women who bring out the best in ourselves.
We hope you'll celebrate the women in your life on this unofficial holiday. Happy Galentine's!
